Count On The Rain

I suppose this could count as my pandemic song (if every artist has one)… I was days removed from that toxic relationship in Ain’t Hitting Me Yet and living temporarily in my friends sober home… now it wasn’t a sober home yet… but it was being remodeled into that so there was opportunity to stay there for a while while I get an apartment sorted out.  I moved in March 2020 and COVID happened of course at the same time.  I was also just a month sober again.  I felt pretty trapped … but in a good way.  This sober home I could feel the good vibes and energy in.  I was staying in a study or a library and would just stare out the windows and write and sing all night.  I could be as loud as I wanted.  I’d been struggling with my own mental health and then early sobriety again and the pandemic and so again in reflection on all these things, I wanted to reassure myself and anyone listening that YES it will rain (meaning there will be dark times and it’s not all rainbows and butterflies all the time) but it will be rainbows and butterflies after the rain, after the storms of life.  I then thought about my mother again, and other cancer fighters, that this would be the battle song for anyone in a fight or in a dark period in their life.   I’m gonna make it out alright, I’m gonna see those brighter skies.

Lyrics

You’re gonna make it out alright
You’re gonna see some brighter skies
Take this down now now take it from me
It’s your life you can do as you please

One thing is certain one guarantee
Life comes to an end eventually
Oh take this down now now take it from me
You wanna count on something you can see

Then Count on the Rain
Count on the pain
To remind you of everything
That you need to face

Oh Falling star I can see you fall
Remind me just how small we are
Oh take this down now now take it from me
If you don’t learn anything then you can’t teach

To Count on the rain
To Count on the pain
To remind you of everything
That stares you in the face

You can count on the rain
You can count on the pain
To remind you of everything
That you need to face

Oh now I’m gonna make it out alright
I’m gonna see those brighter skies
Take this down now now take it from me
It’s my life and I’ll do as I please

Yeah I’ll count on the rain
Count on the pain
To remind me of everything
I’ve already faced

I thank God for the rain
