This song is all about acceptance and lessons learned from going through a breakup or end of a relationship. And it was mostly written from a very specific relationship I had and then other parts from other relationships. But it’s all 100% genuine, real life love and lots of heartache here! Like hey…even though we said forever and neither one of us wanted to end up here, I want you to know that I accept it and that “It was worth every second, all the diamonds and gold.” I want you to know that I’m grateful for all the time we spent. And that there’s still times I long for parts of what we had that were good. This song is the ultimate in wishing the other person well and still feeling the pains of it. It’s handling the situation the best way possible so you can get to that point in the bridge, which felt a little Genesis / Phil Collins … where it can feel good to finally be alone. And speaking of how the song feels musically, I feel like we got some Eurythmic’s from the 80s going as well as some 1975 (the band that is) vibes.
